A Step by Step guide to delivering the perfect speech
Officially, the brides father (or close relative or family friend) makes the first speech and proposes a toast to the bride and groom. The brides father is expected to deliver an optimistic, sentimental and entertaining speech. As you prepare your wedding speech, keep in mind the following main points....
1 - You are pleased to see so many friends and relatives
2 - You are proud of your daughter and her choice of husband
3 - You welcome your new son in law as part of the family
4 - Some stories about your daughter during her childhood and teenage years
It is not appropriate that you should cause any embarrassment to your daughter or your new son in law.
FORMAL APPROACH
Welcome the groom's parents, other relations, friends and distinguished guests.
Thank particular people by name for their help.
Comment favourably on the brides appearance, praise her past achievements and thank her her her part in family life.
Welcome the groom into the brides family with words of praise for his character.
To end, offer sincere advice to the happy couple and wish them well for the future.
LESS FORMAL APPROACH
Light heartedly break the ice and set an amusing tone for your speech.
Say what a wonderful occasion its been and tell a story about events leading up to the big day.
Say how proud you are of your daughter and provide a humorous insight into her pre-wedding years
Congratulate the groom on his good fortune and express your happiness in getting to know him and his family.
Declare your confidence in the happy couples future together and offer some entertaining thoughts or advice about what makes a successful marriage.

Offer up your version of the bride and grooms romance, providing details about the way the couple met, why they are so well suited and what they see in each other.
Recount an amusing episode involving their relationship and express your confidence in the happy couples future together.
End with a comical thought about love and marriage and propose a heartfelt toast to the newly weds.

Speak of the pleasure this day brings you even though you may have had to pay for it.
Disclose your feelings about giving your daughter away and the prospect of having to make this speech.
Describe the special relationship you have with your daughter and the immense happiness she has brought into your life.
